A Diary Of Events Nov 69 - May 70


1969
Nov 3 Detachment joined Bulwark
Nov 24 - 25 L.C.V.P. evolutions carried out - beaching, etc in Carrick Roads, River Fal and St Mawes

1970
Jan 14 - 23 Ship started its work-up, bad weather prevented any L.C.V.P. work Jan 27th Sailed for South Africa

Feb 12-17 At Cape Town. The Detachment was generously entertained by the local branch of the R.M.Association, they arranged a cocktail party, dance, barbecue and a vineyard visit for us

Mar 5-6 Exercise"New Look"in Borneo. The Assault Squadron was based on the River Tutong, where it was used for river patrols, a base for the Gemini craft of 2 Raiding Squadron, and to provide guards for the two main road bridges over the river
Some of us joined "K" Company, as motor convoy escorts. We had some difficulty getting back to the ship as we had to tow one craft out of the narrow river entrance in a Force 4 beam sea

April
Apr 6-10 Exercise "Flying Fish". The L.C.V.Ps were used for Operation "Awkward" and then, in conjunction with Fearless' craft, to withdraw all the 1st and 2nd Gurkhas and a large amount of transport
Apr 23-28 At Kobe Japan - O.C.R.M not seen onboard!
