Our Home

This site is still under construction, but here is a little ditty from the ditty box

This music was played on the ships SRE at lights out

Thoughts of Home

In the sixties,we did not have cassette players etc, and record players would skip and dance as the ship hove up and down. Radio reception for entertainment was very poor, So most ships had an SRE,Which was run by volunteers, Thankyou to those Volunteers You kept us sane!

When it was Lights Out at ten pm, we used to get an extra fifteen minutes of quiet music. And Sandy Posey was the most popular,Stand by your man became the ships shutdown signature

THE MESSDECK

This is a photograph of one corner of our messdeck (home)Fourtyeight of us lived and
slept here. If you count the bunks in this picture there are twelve. The lockers that
you see in the centre, were all we possesed, and everything we owned had to be in there

We did have one standard suitcase in a wrack.Hanger space for two coats and a
small boot locker, which held your six pairs of shoes/boots and a shoe polish kit
